Inspiration for my latest collection of Silk Scarves

Living on the rugged West coast of New Zealand under the gaze of Mount Taranaki, and surrounded by Egmont National Park, with its rich fertile volcanic soils, I knew that my first collection of designs would be in honour of this stunning landscape.

Walking in the local Pukekura botanical gardens, I learned to recognise native ferns. Observing them in their natural habitat, I began to notice and appreciate the variety of fern life, feeling drawn to their delicate fronds and often graceful way they danced in a breeze.

Through detailed observation, I sketched and painted their delicate forms which led to the creation of my first collection of textile designs. I hope by sharing my appreciation of our natural world, I am able to inspire others to grow more awareness of the beauty and importance of our native plant life and in turn give back to our environment.

Trees that Count

I am delighted to announce that I have teamed up with
Trees that Count’ a conservation charity bringing together community, business, and every day Kiwis with the vision of planting 200 million native trees across the country.

This charity’s values align very closely with my own, as nature conservation is a topic that is dear to my heart. I feel a strong connection to the natural world, shaped by my upbringing on remote Scottish Isles. I owe this deep appreciation and wonder of nature to my father and his devotion to conservation. From an early age, I was introduced to the critical importance of protecting our natural world and this love of nature has led me to deepen my own passion for conservation. It felt fitting therefore that with my first collection of silk scarves, inspired by the beauty of New Zealand’s endemic ferns, to give back to our natural world by donating funds towards a much needed conservation project here in New Zealand.

You’re looking after our rare species!

80% of our trees, ferns and flowering plants are endemic (found only in New Zealand). Our unique native trees such as the kōwhai, pōhutukawa, kauri and tī kōuka (cabbage tree) are something we’re all proud of and embedded in our identity as New Zealanders. By helping plant more of our iconic native species, you’re protecting our unique flora and fauna for the future.
